Men's 2nd VIII in action

£2500
Target

FUNDS RAISED  £ 0
What's the money for?
UCBC's 2nd VIII is coming to the end of its life, and is no longer good for racing because it often takes on a lot of water through the middle join. The plan is to replace the current 1st VIII boat with a new Janousek, and for the current 1st VIII boat to become the 2nd VIII.

UCBC's own alumni (FCBC), the Castle Society and the Master have all agreed to donate some money towards the new boat, but we still need to raise at least £2500 more.

We expect the new boat to last the club at least 10 years, with regular use by both squads. The current 2nd VIII could then be permanently racked at Tyne. This would allow us to train a few times a term on a much bigger stretch of river.

About the club:
University College Boat Club boasts over 70 members, a Grade II listed boathouse in the picturesque heart of the city and a 177 year history of racing success.

Founded in 1834, UCBC is the oldest rowing club in the North. The boathouse is situated just 100ft from the cathedral and castle, together comprising a UNESCO world heritage site, visited by large numbers of tourists all year round. Durham is home to the busiest rowing river in Europe with more than 2000 rowers competing for space on a 4km stretch of water.

In the 2009-2010 season UCBC won over 80 pots, competing at many national top events, including the Head of the River Race in London (HoRR), Tyne Head, York Spring and Summer Regattas, Durham and Durham City Regattas.

So far this season UCBC has won 55 pots, a huge achievement for any club before the summer which is the traditional period in which pots are won. We retained the Novice Cup, winning the Men's Final, Men's Plate Final, and making it to the final of the Women's Plate. The men's 1st VIII have won the Durham College Pennant Series two years running now, whilst our women's novice VIIIs are performing very well and should achieve great things next year.

UCBC now has three and a half men's VIIIs (composite crew with SACBC), two women's VIIIs and a women's IV. There has never been greater demand for boats.

Any donation, large or small, will be a great help and will very much appreciated for years to come!

If anyone is interested in corporate sponsorship please get in touch directly through our website www.ucbc.co.uk. UCBC can offer a range of benefits. Details upon request.
